Cuban culture has made its way into America thanks to many refugees and their talents. Maria Irene Fornes, a Cuban immigrant to the United States, created plays that focused on feminism and poverty.

Programs like these include Casa Latina Programs, providing education on English, workers’ rights, and the consumer culture of America.
Apollcommissioned by the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health found that the majority of Latinas agree that women have the right to make their own personal, private decisions about abortion, countering popular narratives of Latinas as being socially conservative and anti-abortion. Latinas are much more nuanced and less sanitized than pundits, marketers and producers would like to convince you.

Women workers are only 7.3 percent of those in registered apprenticeships.33 Of women who are in apprenticeship programs, less than 10 percent are Hispanic, compared to men in apprenticeships, almost 16 percent of whom identified as Hispanic. Furthermore, women earn less in their apprenticeship programs than men do.
These women were all members of powerful Hispanic families in the state; many of their fathers and husbands were well-connected politicians. Some of them described themselves as housewives, others were professionals. Lola Armijo was the first female member of the state government, having been appointed as state librarian in 1912. Though the governor tried to replace her with a man, arguing that under the state constitution women could not be elected to office, a court upheld her appointment. Although she was not reported as present at the parade that day, Adelina “Nina” Otero-Warren, the first female superintendent of schools in Santa Fe was also a well-known Hispanic suffragist in the state.

If a worker is underpaid in one job, and their next job bases their new salary on previous salary, then workers who are more likely to face discriminatory pay at any given employment may face the cumulative effects of this discrimination throughout their careers.
